The Joya Centre is located in Nelson, one of the most attractive and inspirational areas of New Zealand. As the oldest settlement on the South island this seaside town has some beautiful heritage buildings, often situated in park-like settings.
Nelson is also known for its Mediterranean climate, arts and crafts, and the music, film and theatre festivals that take place all through the year. The Abel Tasman National Park is less than one hour away and the Kahurangi and the Nelson Lakes no more than ninety minutes. All in all, Nelson is an ideal holiday destination.
It may be worthwhile considering the combination of a holiday whilst doing some listening, either a full course or just for a few days to be energised and overcome your jetlag. We have had guests who started their ‘listening’ as early as 6am in the morning which gave them the rest of the day off to explore, go kayaking, tramping etc.
There are two self-contained studios at Joya, but you can also book the B&B option. The garden studio is situated in a private garden overlooking a pond with a small island, and a number of other water features. The villa studio comprises a ground floor studio apartment in the tasteful, three storey heritage villa. The villa room is on the top floor of the villa with appealing views over the town, the hilltops of the Centre of New Zealand and a glimpse of sea. Award winning restaurants, café's and galleries are just a five-minute stroll away.
The studios are self-contained with organic teas and coffee provided. An optional organic vegetarian breakfast (with vegan and gluten-free options) can be served in the villa or on the main deck. The herbs and fruit gardens are for shared use. All water is filtered for chlorine free drinking and bathing. Beds are handcrafted and have NZ made ‘healthy’ mattresses. Kitchen surfaces and wooden floors are treated with organic oils. We offer long term deals and other services offered through the Joya Centre. There is an in-house book library as well as an extensive DVD collection and telephone and internet access in each room. Languages spoken: English, French, German, Dutch and some Spanish.
The summer months - December to February - are the busiest periods. For those without school-going children it would be advisable to come in Spring and Autumn, times when the weather is still beautiful and the Nelson area is a bit quieter. Nelson can be good place to spend the winter. It can be cold - sometimes even a few degrees below zero during the night - but it is still sunny with wonderful clear, crisp mornings and deep blue skies.
